Feniarco, in collaboration with European Choral Association - Europa Cantat and Arcova - Valle d'Aosta, organises the 8th masterclass for composers, aspiring composers who are interested in choral music and to choir conductors who had previous experiences on writing and elaboration in Aosta from 20th to 26th July 2014.
Great international lecturers, two choirs-in-residence (a mixed adult choir and a children's choir) always at participants' disposal for rehearsing and putting into sound their new pieces, a final concert with original selected compositions.
The course is open to a maximum number of 21 active participants (7 for each workshop); listeners are accepted without number limit.

The proposed workshop for 2014 are:

Workshop on composing, elaboration and arranging
director Vytautas Miškinis (Lithuania)
The aim of the workshop is the realisation of an original score for choir or an elaboration-arrangement for choir, starting from musical material gathered from folk and cultivated musical traditions.

Workshop on arranging for vocal pop and jazz
director Philip Lawson (UK)
In this workshop all useful elements for making a vocal pop and jazz arrangement will be looked into. From the technical point of view, harmony, voice and vocal lines aspects will be studied.

Workshop on composing for children’s choir
director Piero Caraba (Italy)
From choosing a text to the composition on words, from reflections on the language to the composing techniques, taking into account the different musical styles and repertoire. Special attention will be given also to some basic principles of music pedagogy.

Workshop on experimentation-performing
directors Davide Benetti (mixed choir) (Italy) and Luigina Stevenin(children's choir) (Italy)
In this workshop two choirs-in-residence will study and perform the pieces composed by participants of the three workshops on composition. here will be a mixed choir and a children’s choir working on the delicate issue of the passage from score to performance.
 

7th European Academy for choral conductors

A special masterclass for choral conductors! The European Academy is a professional masterclass open to experienced conductors and takes places in a coastal city of  the centre of Italy. Participants will have the chance to  practice with a high-level choir-in-residence, at their disposal for all the duration of the course. The Academy ends with a concert conducted by the participants. The lecturer, the renowned conductor Nicole Corti from France, will focus  the masterclass on French, English and Italian repertoire  of the ‘900. The European Academy is organised by  Feniarco (Italian Federation of Regional Choral  Associations) in collaboration with ECA-EC (European Choral Association - Europa Cantat).  Download the brochure and the application form on www.feniarco.it! The course You can apply to the course as active participant or as listener. On the first day of the workshop, the Academy conductor  will select, among the active participants, 16 conductors,  who will be divided into two levels: first course (8  participants) and advanced course (8 participants). All the  other participants will attend the Academy as listeners.  The criteria for selection and subdivision will be the  curriculum vitae (it has to be attached to the application  form), the age and one’s performance during the first conducting session. Active participants will have the chance  to practice every day with a high-level choir-in-residence, at their disposal for the whole duration of the course. At the end of the study activities, on Saturday night, a concert will be conducted by the best course conductors. Singers interested in joining the choir-in-residence may  submit their applications by 31st May 2013 by sending an e-mail to info@feniarco.it accompanied by a music curriculum vitae and a recording containing the performance, in their  vocal register, of a choral piece of their own choice. By the  end of June they will be informed of the results. The participation fee will be paid after the communication of  being part of the choir-in-residence. Music programme and artistic contents The course will develop through different themes,  focusing mainly on the following contents: analysis and study of a cappella modern pieces, paying particular attention to the music from the French, English and Italian repertoire of the ‘900 rehearsal method performance and choral conducting method vocal technique and vocal health The programme will consist of choral pieces such as Stabat mater by Francis Poulenc, Poèmes Franciscains (excerpts)  by Joseph-Ermend Bonnal, Requiem (excerpts) by Gabriel Fauré and other pieces written by English and Italian composers of that period. Deadline for application is 31st May 2013 Nicole Corti Orchestra and choir conductor, Nicole Corti is a passionate and skilled pedagogue. In 1974, she founded the Irigny’s Music School and in 1984 a female ensemble, the Choeur Britten. Thanks to her background and to this choir, she has acquired a world-renowned reputation as a musician, and her actions and performances have been praised by composers, audiences and critics.  Among other important works, from 1993 to 2006, Nicole Corti was artistic director at the choral school Maîtrise de Notre-Dame de Paris. In this legendary and fascinating place, she was in charge of the increasing of the musical activity in the liturgical area as well as of the programming of concerts and recordings. She promoted the studying of a wide repertoire, from the Baroque to contemporary music. She also conducted the national tribute at President Mitterand’s funeral in January 1996.  Her work in Paris did not prevent her from carryi ng on her activities with the Choeur Britten, regularly performing in France and abroad, and from pursuing her teaching and pedagogue activities in many music schools. Since 2008, Nicole Corti has been teaching choir conducting at the National Academy of Music and Ballet in Lyon.  On two occasions the quality of her work has been honored by the School of Fine Arts with the Liliane Bettencourt Prize for choral singing: in 2002 for the work with the Maîtrise de Notre-Dame de Paris and in 2010 with the Choeur Britten. Dra til Italia på "singing week" i sommer!

A singing week not to be missed! Next to the seaside and close to the beautiful Venice and the evocative Trieste, this summer singing week will host 6  atelier open to choirs, conductors, individual choir members and music lovers! Every evening there will be concerts, introduced by open singing, and all participants are invited to join this magical atmosphere and enjoy the music. At the end of the week each atelier will perform in a final concert. Download the brochure and the application form on www.feniarco.it Atelier for individual singers and choirs >>MUSIC FOR CHILDREN'S CHOIRS AND CONDUCTORS' COURSE Conductor: Luigi Leo (IT) Put together the joy of singing in a choir, the thrill of being together, of meeting children and young people from  different cultures, add a pinch of euphoria and you get an explosive mixture. In this workshop you will learn songs  with a captivating rhythm and you will not only sing, but  move and shake! The conductors who accompany the  children will take part in this whirlwind of experiences in  the frontline! >>MONTEVERDI AND VENETIAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC Conductor: Fabio Lombardo (IT) Discovering the great Claudio Monteverdi and his contemporaries by focusing on aspects of the performing technique in relation to the style and the performers. The Magnificat II of 1641 and the Missa a 4 voci da cappella of 1650 are two of the pieces that will be studied. Both  individual singers and already formed vocal groups can participate at the workshop. >>SPIRITUAL AND GOSPEL Conductor: André J. Thomas (US) This workshop will help participants learn how to sing,  teach and conduct both Spirituals and Gospel Music with  one of the most famous expert, André Thomas. His book  Way Over in Beulah Lan’ Understanding and performing  the Negro Spiritual has become a primary source for  scholars, teachers, and performers. Participants will actively perform with authenticity and they will leave with an unforgettable store of knowledge! >>ROMANTIC MUSIC Conductor: Rainer Held (CH) We will dive into the Romantic music through interesting works by not too famous composers (Draeseke) placed side by side with the masterpieces for choir a cappella in four- and five-part scores of the great masters such as Mendelssohn, Reger, Brahms and Schoeck. The songs will include the sacred and profane repertoire and the languages will be Latin, German and Rhaeto-Romance (Ladin). >>VOCAL POP / JAZZ Conductor: Rogier IJmker (NL) Most pop songs are about love and may seem to be superficial, but underneath there lies some true difficulties and challenges to deal with. In this atelier you will discover some new pieces, interesting lyrics and original arrangements. The main goal this week is to get groovy: pop music is all about groove and rhythm! When the groove is in your body then singing will be a unique experience! >>WORLD MUSIC Conductor: Silvana Noschese (IT) Voices, sounds, dances and instruments! A strong bond will bring together cultural expressions from different countries, some more known and others at risk of disappearing. Songs related to particular traditions, ceremonies, moments of life and celebrations, from Africa to India, from European sounds to the sounds of South America in a wide variety of timbres and colours. Alpe Adria Cantat 2013 is waiting for you! Alpe Adria Cantat is a summer singing week, that stems from the need to offer to all the lovers of the choral nation­al and international world, an opportunity of learning, confronting and sharing of experiences in the context of a study holiday. Children can meet young singers of different nations and regions together with their conductors, adults can be involved in the over­whelming atmosphere of the world choral music, choose the con­tagious sound of spirituals and gospel music, or indulge in the pleasant vocal pop and jazz music. The most traditional singers have the opportunity to choose between the classic themes of Ro­mantic music and the Venetian school, deepened by internation­ally renowned conductors. There is something to suit everybody’s fancy! Together with the studying activities, every choir can perform, giv­ing to the other participants and to the public the best of its rep­ertoire, of the joy to sing and to listen. The concerts will be organ­ised in the Villaggio Ge.Tur., a comfortable setting of the many ac­tivities of the singing week, and also in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Re­gion and in the Veneto Region, in cities rich of historical and artis­tic beauties.
