International Girls' Choir Festival is the first artistic event of this kind in Europe. It will be held in September 2014 in Poznań - the capital of Wielkopolska, Poland. The initiator and host of the festival is one of the most distinguished girls' choirs in Europe - SKOWRONKI (The Skylarks) Girls' Choir, directed by Alicja Szeluga and based in Poznań Zamek Culture Centre.
Poznań, called a city of choirs, is recognised in Poland as well as abroad as the greatest Polish choral centre. During the festival it will become a musical meeting place for girls aged 12 to 19 from different parts of the world. The beauty of the girl's voice together with its subtle sound will be filling concert halls of Zamek Culture Centre and other unusual venues around Wielkopolska.
Music from the participants' native countries will be mostly heard throughout the festival. Concerts will provide the choirs with an opportunity to present the richness of their countries' musical culture and inspire them to culture swap. A further aspect of the festival is showing openness and respect to each other. At the culmination of the festival, all choirs will sing at the grand finale concert, which will include presentations of individual choirs as well as massed performance of one of Polish composers' grand works.
1st International Girls' Choir Festival will be held from 18 to 21 September 2014. It is an unprecedented, unique artistic event and a real feast for music-lovers from Poznań and fans of choral music from all over the world. Performers and visitors are warmly welcome to take part in these fabulous days of music, which will sound with girls' voices.
